” Nintendo’s Legendary Portable Console “: Gameboy
This week on Techy Tuesday, we’ll be taking a look back in the past at Nintendo’s Legendary Portable Console: The Gameboy. The only gameboy I ever owned was the backward compatibility of the DS haha.
An 8-bit handheld that was developed by Nintendo which was inspired by the Game & Watch.Furthermore, this devices creation inspired a line of this series that would release in the future. Created by the same team that created the Game & Watch console which was led by Gunpei Yokoi. It’s worth mentioning that Nintendo’s first handheld portable was actually the Game & Watch. Finally, The Nintendo Gameboy released in Japan April 21, 1989. North America July 31, 1989. and in Europe September 28, 1990.
But what’s a console without a little competition?
This little handheld device had some stiff competition with consoles like the Game Gear and Atari. Due to the console’s complete success, the GameBoy Color was born. Selling over 118 million copies, it sparked the idea of a new console. The Gameboy Advance was born along with being the second best-selling handheld device out there, the DS being first.
Check out last weeks Techy Tuesday for more information about the DS:
To think that this small little handheld became practically a world-renowned star! Not to forget the lineup such as the Gameboy Light, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color, and Gameboy Advance. Another interesting fact is that Tetris was the best selling game on this device selling over 30 million copies. Crazy Right?! These things are incredibly rare to find, especially the Pikachu Gameboy Advance(my friend happens to own one haha). This console will always be remembered in Video game History as one of the best Portable Handheld devices.
Here’s what it looked like *Pika*
And that’s all for Techy Tuesday! Hopefully, you learned something new about Nintendo’ Legendary Portable Console. Tune in next week to find out what’s in store on Techy Tuesday.
Until Next Time! 😀
